Monday, August 14:
NASA Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex (Day 1) – Cape Canaveral
First stop was the “Heroes and Legends” building, which honors and commemorates all NASA astronauts and space missions up to the present day. In addition to seeing the original launch control room for the Mercury program, the Tech Talent awardees were delighted to find a familiar face in a display called “Curious”- NASA’s Associate Administrator and Astronaut, Mr. Robert Cabana, who piloted a space shuttle and spent a month outside of planet Earth! Mr. Cabana visited Al Nayzak earlier this year, and recorded a congratulatory video for the Tech Talent winners at their award ceremony

Then, it was on to visit the historic rockets and capsules in the Rocket Garden, with its real perspective on the history of the US space program while sitting inside the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules! They immersed themselves in the hands-on experiences of the Space Shuttle Atlantis complex, crawled through International Space Station, experienced a Shuttle launch in a simulator, used the shuttle arm to deploy a satellite, and piloted the shuttle for a landing. What a day – “Spectacular!”
