World Partnerships was honored to once again partner with the St. Petersburg Police Department to bring the 10th anniversary version of this program to the Tampa Bay region.  This U.S. Department of State Special Initiative brought 59 judicial, law enforcement, and security officials from 49 countries to the Tampa Bay region to engage with U.S. counterparts and examine methods for upholding the rule of law, leveraging partnerships, expanding international cooperation and defeating terrorism. 

TMSSW is an extraordinary gathering of professionals who combat transnational criminal organizations, terrorism and cyberwarfare every day, making our world safer and more secure. “Towards a More Safe and Secure World” is designed to promote global cooperation against transnational crime, terrorism, and violent extremism. Discussion topics range from transnational threats to international peace and security, including terrorism, trafficking of persons and narcotics, border insecurity, corruption, cyber warfare, and the impacts from climate change.

TMSSW Objectives
  • To provide an understanding of the American criminal justice system and the legal framework for combating a range of transnational crimes;
  • To explore the role of law enforcement and prosecutorial authorities at the federal, state, and local levels to detect, investigate,and prosecute various transnational crimes, such as financial and organized crimes, the trafficking and smuggling of people and narcotics, and terrorism;
  • To explore initiatives that seek to identify and address root causes of crime, such as poverty and lack of educational opportunities; 
  • To identify ways in which American policy makers and law enforcement agencies can collaborate with international partners to counter transnational threats.
