Chad Mairn is a St. Petersburg College Information Services Librarian, Assistant Professor, and Manager of the Innovation Lab, a “technology playground” that demonstrates what is possible with emerging technologies. While an undergraduate studying Humanities at the University of South Florida (USF), Chad was awarded a Library of Congress Fellowship archiving Leonard Bernstein’s personal papers. During his Library and Information Science (LIS) graduate work, also at USF, Chad became a technology liaison between the Bill Gates Learning Foundation and Florida public libraries. In 2016, Chad received a League of Innovation Excellence Award in Teaching and Learning for Innovation in the Use of Technology. In June 2022, the Innovation Lab received a $10,000 grant from the International Space Station National Laboratory Center for Advancement of Science in Space. This new project incorporates a “Space Lab” using resources from ISS National Lab Space Station Explorers (SSE) educational partners, NASA, and other STEM learning toolkits. This will be a partnership between SPC, Pinellas County Schools, and other community groups.
