Wednesday, May 10:
The Challenges of Disinformation, Misinformation, and Artificial Intelligence for Global Security Professionals Closing out the official program in the afternoon, Mr. Al Tompkins, retired senior faculty for broadcasting and online at the Poynter Institute, brought his broad and deep insights into how information wars and artificial intelligence will transform the global security landscape, bringing both challenges and opportunities to law enforcement, the Judiciary, and cybersecurity professionals. Tompkins brought a journalist’s investigative and fact-checking toolkit to this security audience, demonstrating the uses of AI like ChatGPT (for developing investigative scenarios at a crime scene) and abuses (such as diversionary “deep fake” videos of emergency situations.) Al’s eye-opening presentation elicited a lively discussion that could have lasted into the evening! |
